The Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club honored Meena Ajith as this year’s Optimist Star Student, the club’s version of student of the year.   She is a 2020 graduate of Lambert High School.  The Optimist Star Student Program recognizes outstanding high school students who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership, and good citizenship.

With a 4.51 GPA and ranking 12th in a class of 728, Meena has been acknowledged for her numerous scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities, and leadership.  Among them: National Beta Club, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Chamber of Commerce Internship Innovation Award, Georgia Certificate of Merit, TSA Statesman Exam Award, and AP Scholar With Distinction Award.  She was a member of the Lambert marching band, winning the GSU Marching Band Championship in 2018 and 2019.

She was IT intern at Lambert, designing and updating web pages; and IT intern at the Administrative Offices at the Forsyth County Public Library, creating, testing, and designing web pages in a new cloud-based product.

Meena is a believer and involved in volunteering: a mentor at Sharon Elementary School and volunteer at Sharon Forks Library.  She participates in Blessings in a Backpack, helping provide food for elementary and middle school students on the Federal Free and Reduced Meal Program.

Meena will continue her education at Georgia Tech, majoring in computer science.

“Meena is an inspiring and accomplished young lady,” remarked Grady Howard, chairman of the club’s star student committee.  “Her credentials and resume are impressive.  Our community is fortunate to have the caliber of students she represents.”
