On Friday, May 12, South Forsyth High School’s Art Department held an art show and award ceremony celebrating its talented art students. The students who were recognized were selected to have their work on display at the new Atlanta Bread Company location at the Collection on Peachtree Parkway. Dean Ditmar, the owner, presented the students with a certificate and gift card to the restaurant. Art students at SFHS were invited to participate in a contest based on the theme, “What Does Community Mean to Me?”. The artwork was judged by Dean and Kelly Ditmar (franchise owners), Basil Couvaras (co-founder, Vice President and COO of Atlanta Bread), members of SFHS administration and the visual art teachers at SFHS. The selected artwork will be on display for approximately a year with plans to hold a contest annually.
Also recognized were the Regional Scholastic Art Award Winners. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Through the Awards, students receive opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. Students across America submitted 330,000 original works during the 2017 program year across 29 different categories of art and writing.
