The Science Olympiad season has once again been exciting for Forsyth County Schools. The district hosted two GA Science Olympiad tournaments during the 2017 season. On March 4th Forsyth County High Schools hosted the Forsyth Regional Middle School Science Olympiad tournament and on March 11th, SFHS hosted the Forsyth County Elementary School Science Olympiad tournament. These tournaments both serve as qualifiers for the state Science Olympiad program. Science Olympiad is unlike traditional science competitive events. It is best described as an academic track meet with a variety of STEM events occurring simultaneously. Across the past several years, distinct “feeder patterns” similar to athletics are beginning to emerge as students are participating in elementary Science Olympiad and continuing into middle school and eventually building strong high school teams. All five Forsyth County Schools high schools have active Science Olympiad teams and on March 25th Forsyth Central High School will compete at Emory University along with the other top 23 teams in the state.
On March 4th, FCHS hosted the Forsyth Regional Middle School tournament involving 22 middle schools from across the metro Atlanta area including four FCS middle schools. Three of the FCS middle school Science Olympiad teams competed at other GASO tournaments. On March 18th, Vickery Creek Middle and South Forsyth Middle along with 27 other top GASO middle schools for the state GASO title and an invite to the National Science Olympiad tournament in May.

The top two teams from this tournament have earned an invitation to compete in the May 13th Georgia Elementary Science Olympiad, GA ESO, state tournament at Kennesaw State University. The GA ESO program is one of the largest in the nation including one of the largest elementary Science Olympiad state tournaments hosting 65 total teams of 20 students each. The top teams at the Forsyth County Elementary Science Olympiad State Qualifier are; Shiloh Point-1st, Vickery Creek-2nd, Chattahoochee-3rd, Daves Creek-4th and Settles Bridge-5th.
